Why Do We Need Your Social Security Number?

DealNow requires your Social Security Number (SSN) at two points: during driver's license verification and when connecting your bank account. Both are required by federal law for any platform that moves funds. DealNow never stores or views your SSN; our verification partners process that data and return only a verified result.

Why Your SSN Is Required

During Driver's License Verification

Before any money moves on a DealNow deal, the platform runs a Know Your Customer (KYC) check. This is a legal requirement for money-moving platforms in the United States. As part of that check, Plaid, DealNow's identity verification partner, uses your SSN to confirm your identity against government records and screen for fraud or compliance issues. Plaid does not share your SSN with DealNow; it returns only a pass or fail result.

When Connecting Your Bank Account

Your SSN is also required when you link a bank account. DealNow uses your connected bank account in two situations:

  • Seller payout: When you sell a vehicle, the deal proceeds are sent directly to your connected bank account after the deal closes.
  • Negative Equity: If your loan payoff amount is greater than the deal price, you need a bank account with USALLIANCE Financial to fund the difference.

How Your Data Is Protected

DealNow does not store your SSN, driver's license image, bank password, or routing number. Prove and Plaid, the partners that handle identity and bank verification, process sensitive information and share only tokens or pass/fail results with DealNow. All data in transit is protected by HTTPS encryption.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does DealNow ever see my SSN?

No. DealNow does not receive, store, or view your SSN at any time. Prove and Plaid process identity data directly and share only a verified result.

Why is the SSN required just to sell my car?

Federal law requires Know Your Customer (KYC) identity checks on any platform that processes financial transactions. The check confirms you are who you say you are before funds are released to your bank account.

Is it safe to enter my SSN in the app?

Yes. All information is protected by HTTPS encryption during transmission. Your SSN is handled by Prove and Plaid, both regulated financial services companies, and is never stored by DealNow.

What happens if I don't provide my SSN?

The identity verification step and bank account setup cannot be completed without it. You will not be able to receive a payout or close a negative equity deal until both steps are finished.
